SHANGHAI CHIC: WORTH EVERY PENNY

There are some restaurants you just want to keep to yourself. But as a food blogger it would be a huge dis-service if I did not share. Shanghai Chic is nestled at the far end of the lobby, as though the Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate too wants the restaurant to reveal itself slowly. But a good, delicious and tasty secret is hard to stay secret – so here goes!

Shanghai Chic serves à la carte. Well, like most restaurants do! Nothing exciting about that you say! I totally agree with you J What I wanted to share was that the restaurant does an Unlimited Tasting menu. Priced at just AED 199 (per person including soft drinks) or AED 299 (per person with unlimited selected wines and spirits), the concept is an all you can eat one where you are encouraged to choose anything or everything from the long list of Asian dishes on the menu, and if you like some dishes (as you naturally will), you can ask for a repeat.

If you are like me and want to try different things all the time, these concepts offer the perfect opportunity to do just that. The food comes beautifully plated with just enough for you to get a taste. We wanted to be adventurous, so we did not do any repeats (although the thought did cross my mind a few times), we just kept going with newer options.

What we did was took the AED 199 option and as my dinner companion only wanted one drink, we ordered a cocktail off the menu.

We tried a lot of things (despite having a very late pub lunch) – so bear with me as I take you through my recommendations. My only suggestion when you visit Shanghai Chic is to go with an appetite – it is well worth it! Oh! And just in case the name of the restaurant has not yet given the cuisine away – Shanghai Chic serves Asian foodJ

Overall we were not impressed with the Pork dishes. But then that could just be us having an Indian palette and wanting to taste pork differently. So don’t take our word for it, try it – you might like it – and that is why an unlimited tasting menu works!

I would totally be comfortable in telling you to trust the recommendations of the staff. Some of our best choices came thanks to us listening to them. Take your time and order a couple of dishes at a time and enjoy your food, as the food comes out pretty quickly once an order has been placed.

Shanghai Chic is value for money, has good food, great service and a wonderful ‘come back soon’ vibe. Just remember to take your appetite!
