NOMAD

Well it was time for a girlie catch up session and we wanted something where we could sit for a bit and have a nice relaxed lunch. I am not usually the burger lunching girl, but of course sometimes images on insta can draw you in completely. And that is exactly what happened, which is why I suggested we go to Nomad on Jumeirah Beach Road.

This lunch for me was more about the company and conversation than the food. But if the food was good – that would be an added bonus – and I can’t dismiss the fact that I would get some interesting looking food to click for my insta.

When I arrived (as usual on time), I was the only one at the restaurant, so I had a bit of time to look around. Décor wise it has stand out red sofas with a large graffiti style wall with semi industrial fit outs. Size-wise it is small. Food wise – the menu of course has the current quirky names and brilliant food photos to tempt you to want to try it all (and it’s on an iPad but of course).

When my friend arrived, we decided to order our drink. I had a classic virgin mojito (which was not on the hi-tech menu). Refreshing!

Side Note – they only served Fiji Water. When I asked if they had local water, my server told me that Fiji Water was ‘local water’

For our starters we had the Chicken Dynamite. What caught my eye was that this dish had Cheetos as part of it. Sounded interesting and different – and it was. I loved it.

Being slightly full, the burgers seemed a bit too much for us to have, so we settle on what seemed a smaller, lighter and more sensible choice – a bao. We choose the Thai Chicken Buffalo Bao – again because it sounded different and once again, once bite into it and I knew it was a good choice.

We wanted to have some coffee, but they did not serve that.

I enjoyed the food, the ambience but the only let down was the lack of interest by the staff to engage. They had to be asked to come and take our order, when asked for suggestions – the rattled off the entire menu, they had to be asked to come and clear the table – and honestly it wasn’t even a busy day!!!

Would I recommend Nomad – yes for the food. For the service – not so much!
