KAFTAN TURKISH GOURMET
We had to take some clients out for dinner and they wanted to try a different cuisine to what they usually have had. Dinner was going to be after a long hard day at work so they did not want to stay ‘dressed’ up and they wanted a nice relaxed atmosphere. Kaftan Turkish Gourmet at La Mer ticked all the boxes – had the beach vibes, Turkish food (they had never tired it before) and a relaxed atmosphere.
Since it was mid-week it was not packed so the service was pretty much all geared towards our table – no complaints there 😊 The restaurant has been done up in a combination of exposed, industrial-style (ceiling) and wood (chairs and tables) and of course a beautiful olive tree centerpiece – modern and yet with a subtle Turkish touches (in the plates hanging on the wall).
So this is what we ordered – (some dishes were chosen based on the photos we saw on the iPad menu – although they may have looked quite different when they arrived 😉).
NOTE: Apologies for some of the photos being dark-ish – not the best light at night for food ☹
Sigara Boregi: cheese rolls
Etli Humus: Hummus with chopped lamb and pine nuts
Hellim Kizartma: Butter fried Turkish halloumi cheese.
Karisik Izgara: this was a massive butcher selection of their most popular grills – tavuk pirzola (Turkish style lamb chops), tavuk sis (chicken kebab), kasap kofte (meatballs), adana kebab ) long, hand-minced meat kebab), kuzu sis (kebab made of chunks of lamb meat) and doner kebab
Kanat Izgara: Grilled chicken wings served with baked potatoes and veggies
Ali Nazak: this is a Gaziantep specialty made with tender, succulent lamb served on smoked eggplant and yogurt
We had a wonderful meal – quite a few new things I tried as well and enjoyed them all. And after all that meat – there was no space for dessert.
