I have decided that Asian food is my go-to if given a choice. So when asked to decide a place for a birthday celebration which was central to people’s work and homes (considering this was going to take place on a week day at lunch time), I choose Atisuto in the Safa Park area. They have a few other outposts but this one worked the best in terms of location for us.
Atisuto basically means ‘artist’ in Japanese and the décor is quite artsy – with original Japanese art and graffiti sprawling the walls, and a modern funky interior design – it has a nice bright welcoming feel. (Totally forgot to take pictures of the restaurant ☹ Sorry)
To start with, I ordered myself a Kiiro – passion fruit puree, apple juice, mango juice, lemon and sugar syrup topped with bitter lemon
And then we ordered and shared a number of dishes, including:
Dynamite Prawns: crispy prawns tossed in tongarashi dynamite sauce on a bed of apple glazed salad
Karaage Chicken: chicken pieces deep fried
Chicken Gyoza: Handcrafted steamed chicken dumplings with spicy gyoza sauce
Ramen Burger: Pan fried ramen noodles gave a crispy alternative to a burger bun – we ordered the beef and chicken options. We ordered this for the ‘unusual’ combination but this was the only dish that disappointed (although the ones who had the beef version felt it was better than the chicken one).
Spicy Lemon Grass Prawns: Delicately grilled tiger prawns topped with Atisuto’s signature Tokyo kick sautee mix
We did end up having dessert, but I forgot to take photos of it.
Overall it was good food, wonderful service and a relaxed atmosphere.
